Bio

Hello, all,

This is my fourth year at Semmes Middle School, but, as you can tell from my photo, I've probably been around the block a few times.  No doubt!  So, a little about myself:  Educationally, I have an undergraduate degree in International Business and a master's degree in Professional Writing, both from the University of Memphis.  I also received a second master's degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University.

After having led the International Publications area of FedEx for 16 years, I was ready for a change, so my wife and I left Memphis in 2000 and moved to "my roots" in the Rocky Creek area of George County, Mississippi.  For the next 11 years I taught English and social studies primarily to 6th and 8th graders at George County Middle School.  During 10 of those years I taught Honors classes.  Then, I taught 9th-grade English at George County High School for 2 years before transferring to Rocky Creek Elementary, where I served as principal for the past 6 years.  Great as those jobs were, I yearned to return to the middle school classroom.  I feel very fortunate to be given the opportunity to teach and learn from the students at Semmes Middle School.

My wife, Patti, teaches in George County at Central Elementary, and my son, Conner, will attend 7th grade at George County Middle School, where he'll be in the band and on the basketball team.  My hobbies?  I love reading, music, movies, and travel, having visited 48 states and 46 countries to experience the rich diversity of peoples and cultures throughout the U.S. and around the world.

Because the students here at Semmes Middle School are incredibly awesome, I am certain that the 2023-2024 school year will be just as successful as my previous three years here.  I look forward to working with all of my students and partnering with their parents and guardians throughout the year.  Go Bulldogs!
